Surfs Up, Pura Vida

We've been having some difficulities with the computers around our new home, but I think we've finally figuring out the lay of the land in this ever so chill community. In fact, two days ago we rented surf boards for one dollar each bc the boy wasnt too keen on doing the math to figure that we really owed him alot more...and we were told to have them back by five..however, as we were finishing up the day we passed by him on the beach where he himself was surfing...and he told us to just take the boards home..bring tomorrow pura vida! of course we milked the system for all it was worth and surfed the whole next day and then merely returned the boards inconspicuously, as if we totally knew what we were doing....my board(racheles) is currently so large, as it is more of a bard then actual board, assists me with staying afloat in the ever so tummultous water...its all great til i have to lug it around town, then i develop brachial plexus injuries, arm dislocations and just pure fatigue as i{m pretty sure the board ways about three times my weight....anway.

I have just a few more stories to add, since it has been so long since we've told our stories. Rachele painted a perfect picture of what this town in like, basicially just a bunch of people who are happy so long as the waves keep rolling in, which they have for the past thousand years and probably will for the rest of next week, until we leave. It has been fun getting to know them, since it is the low season we see that same people out everywhere, as we are probably two of only twently tourists in a town made to handle a thousand during the high season. It realy couldn't have been better timing. Even in our Spanish class, we are two of a total of 4 students in a school that will cater to 80 from December to March. Next week, we will have our own classroom (up until now it has been 3 total in our class each week).

Ok, for the stories. One of my favorite is the picture above. I have a favorite bathing suit which I have been wearing religiously to every trip to the beach, pool or lake for at least the past year. Its a beauty. When we started surfing, the waves are so strong that we were having the trouble of Rachele's bottoms slipping down and giving the beach a moon in the middle of the day. So the solution was to buy here a pair of girls board shorts. We went to the local surf shop, which stocks a grand total of about 7 pairs, and lo and behold, one pattern is the EXACT matching pair. I had already had mine on as we were going straight to the beach. I guess it may not that far fetched a coincidence, but it struck us both as really, really funny and pretty soon we had the whole store laughing with us and taking photos of us together. DespĂte the fact that we have always dreamed of being that couple that wears matching outfits, we decided that it might take some time to grow into those roles and that for now well keep away from being the laughingstock of Domincal. Still, what are the chances, I mean, really, that's weird?

A few nights ago we were in our hotel restaurant, just taking one of the last tables before it closed. We are pretty consistenly doing our homework at a restaurant talbe because our room smells like mold thanks to the same favorite pair of shorts featured in the story above, and if it weren't for us, the restaurant would most definately close a few hours earlier. Anyway, we were sitting doing some reading and some of the waiters turns on the TV which had Monday Night Football. I couldn't believe it, here I am in Costa Rica, having trouble finding an internet connection to upload our pictures and they have Monday Night Football. I was psyched, except for the Spanish commentators. We watched for a bit, went back to our room, which also has a TV and Rachele turned it on for the first time. What was on, but the Red Sox playoff game. Holy crap, both games can be seen from our hotel. Needless to say, this had been a huge develpment. I am waiting to hear when the Spanish anouncers say when someone scores a touchdown or hits a homerun, because if it's anything like what they do when a soccer team scores a goal I'm bringing it home so that when the Pats score in the Superbowl I can whip it out.

We just finished our third week of classes, and I think this was the breakthrough week for the two of us. It's starting to make sense and we are both talking with less active effort to conjugate the verbs properly. There is still a tense called the subjunctivo that we dont have in English and that we haven{t learned yet, but for now we're pretending it doesn't exist and getting by pretty well. Rachele didnt speak a word of Spanish before we came and now she chats away with the teachers, making it look easy.

We are heading to a National Park this weekend called Manual Antonia. It is supposed to have gorgeous beaches, a ton of wildlife and some pretty awesome hotels. We were warned that the monkeys are tame from having people there and they will steal things out of your backbacks if you aren{t careful. We will most likley get a nice hotel room for the night and treat ourselves to a real shower. It should be great.

We miss you all, can't wait to catch up in person.

Manuel Antonio is BEAUTIFUL! You will love it! They have a park there that is around $7 to get in to, but I completely reccomend it. Lots of adventuring to do in the park. Along the beach there are tons of vendors too, so bring your money. Love the updates. Love you guys!

I spent a weekend at Manuel Antonio during my stay in Costa Rica - it is gorgeous! We are heading out this morning for a bit of a leaf peeping drive - up Route 100. Rumors are awash that the colors are great! Hasta luego! la Mamma
